Reviewing Standards

I will be giving games a total rating based on their performance in the following categories: Gameplay, Atmosphere, Performance, Long term playability, and Player Freedom. All of these will be based on a scale of 10, with 1 being the worst possible score and 10 being the highest.

The gameplay category is simply based off of how enjoyable the gameplay is. Is the game satisfying to play? Of course this category will be almost entirely subjective.

The Atmosphere category is based off of how the game feels. Soundtrack, graphics, backstory, voice acting, will all be taken into account (if the game has it).

The Performance category is a bit boring, but necessary. No matter how well a game is designed, it is impossible to enjoy if it is constantly crashing or cannot hit a steady 60fps. Obviously this category could depend on the hardware being used to run the game, so I will be listing the device/specifications on the review. I will do my best to rate the games based on their optimization rather than my own hardware.

Long term playability is self explanatory: is the game still enjoyable a long time after you first began playing? Is there a high skill ceiling? A competetive scene?

Player freedom and long term playability could honestly be the same category, but having 5 categories is better for scoring and also allows me, the review, more nuance for my reviews. The difference here is that Long term playability will only be targeting the gameplay itself. This category will be focused on different ways that you can play the game that are different from the 'intended' playstyle.
